My Approach to Pregnancy Photos
More than any other type of family photography, I feel that pregnancy photos elicits the strongest opinion. Pregnancy photos can range anywhere from posed studio photography:
To almost documentary style:
To a more lifestyle approach:
I know that when I was pregnant, a lot of the pregnancy photos just made me cringe and that is why I want to create an experience for all my families that they will love and especially photos that they will cherish forever.
When a family first enquires I try to get a feel for what type of imagery they would like. Usually, if they ask for a studio session I get the feeling they want it a bit more posed. In-home or outdoors is likely a bit more relaxed. Often times I will ask them to find me inspiration images so I can get an idea of what they like. This is really the best way to communicate the look and feel that you want from your session.
In reality, we get a little bit of everything. I will often do a wide variety of both more guided shots and shots where we have a little more movement. In terms of clothing, I send out a questionnaire to all of my families to understand what they would like from fully clothed only to a bit more nudity.
