I realized as a family photographer that every session I do I create portraits. If I can direct those portraits to be ultra flattering, the result is better portraits full of personality and honesty. I'm always looking to improve my portrait photography, so when my parents came to visit I knew I'd have some willing subjects.
I was working with Celina Bailey on our photography class Class Apart (which is sold out on it's first run! yay!) and she mentioned the portrait photographer Platon. I'm always in love with learning, and after a bit of a blah year I'm feeling more inspired than ever. I watched him photograph his subjects during his Netflix documentary and was like 'yeah, I want to try that!'
So I don't have a team behind me doing photo retouching, nor do I have the film camera he has so it's going to be different but that's perfect. I don't want to copy his photos - I want to make them mine.
I see 2020 as a year of experimentation and growth. Trying new things and seeing what works. The world of professional photography is changing fast and I want to make sure I'm right along there with it. I hope you'll follow along with me and I hope you enjoy your portrait photography!
