Family Trip to Europe in Photos Part 1

I want to show you my Family Trip to Europe in Photos! I was luckily enough to take this trip to visit my sister and her family for Christmas and my parents joined us. And they were lucky enough to have a photographer along, even though they probably didn't always feel super jazzed about it!

What type of photos should I take for Family Trip to Europe in Photos

You don't want every single photo you take on your holiday to be posed, staring at the camera photos. Not only does this get repetitive, I'm sure that your family will also get annoyed.

Think about taking a wider variety of photos to tell the story of your trip. I take a lot of photos of the back of my kids heads, but it's OK. It provides movement and tells more of a story.

  • Photos that include hints as to where you are like signs, flags or writing
  • Inside your accommodation. It may seem super boring while you are there, but it's always fun for me to look back and remember where we stayed
  • The food you eat
  • Large photos that give a sense of place
  • Action photos like walking, looking at art, riding in a bus
  • Transportation - how did you get around?
  • Daily routines - did you walk to a certain bakery everyday? Always drink a certain coffee? Again, these seem mundane while you are on the trip but can bring back the strongest memories.

Some of my favourite photos are just the ones of us sitting around in our accommodation reading or eating. It may seem super boring, but these are the photos that bring me back the most to our holiday.

Editing matters. It will definitely take a boring photo and make it much more special. And I'm not talking about Instagram Filters! Lightroom Mobile is a free app and is a good start to understanding how you can edit your photos and make them pop.

Have fun with being creative! In two of the photos on this blog I used motion blur to add a sense of movement to an otherwise boring photo. You'll need to understand your camera in order to do this, but if this is something that you are interested in learning it's well worth while.

What do you think? Do you like taking photos or do you think it takes away from your time on the trip?
