Family Photoshoot Montreal outdoor - Many families book a family photoshoot in Montreal outdoors. Often one of the questions I get asked - what happens if it rains?
Here are my tips and advice for a Montreal Outdoor Family Photoshoot - dealing with the weather:
- Decide how important it is for you to have perfect weather. Do you have hair that can't be even a little wet? Will you be wearing clothes or shoes that might show rain (or mud)?
- What are the chances of rain or inclement weather occurring at the time of the year you book? During our summers we have less rain/windy/miserable days. If you book late fall and continue to rebook hoping for a perfect day, it may not happen until next spring.
- How far in advance do you need notice the session is cancelled? Some families want to know a couple days in advance, some a couple hours.
- How are your kids in the rain (or cold)? How much are you willing to dress them up (or not)?
My personal policy is that I will hold your deposit and rebook for another day if there is inclement weather. I want my photoshoots to reflect families that want to be there and are happy, not families forced to show up in the rain because of a contract term.
But there are some good things about the rain - they tend to lead to more atmospheric photos... more drama. A little wind can provide beautiful blowing hair. But it's important to find the right balance.
Every family is different.
After five years, to me that is very clear! Some families want picture perfect photos, some are OK with a little wind and bundling up. It is really what is right for you and your family.
I was blessed this summer with a LOT of beautiful weather. Some days were actually too hot, and I asked to cancel (I don't want my families to be a sweating mess either!)
