For many people, a maternity shoot is their first photography shoot. Many clients have a lot of questions about what to expect. How do you shoot a maternity shoot? Let me tell you!
How do you shoot a maternity shoot?
- Decide when you want your photos taken. If you have planned in advance between 28-32 weeks is best. Many moms have not planned in advance and I've taken photos up to the date before a c-section.
- Wear something that shows off your bump. The entire point of the shoot is to celebrate your growing bump so clothing designed to be flattering yet show it off is best. I have a selection of maternity dresses available. In addition you can work 1:1 with a local stylist to help you select and co-ordinate clothing.
- Read my prep guide. I give tips for getting ready.
- Moisturize that skin! We will likely be doing bare belly shots, and I KNOW how itchy and scratchy the belly can get. Make sure you moisturize properly.
- Prep your family! Let them know what will be happening and reassure them they don't have to do anything they are uncomfortable with.
Day of the Maternity Shoot
When it comes to the day of the maternity shoot you should be pretty prepared. Your clothing will likely be selected and hopefully you've read my prep guide.
On the day of the shoot I'll make sure you look absolutely beautiful by posing you whether it is in my studio or your own home.
